New Research on Pediatric Long Covid
In light of the Hahn LM et al retraction and the new research by Gross, Thaweethai, and Kleinman et al I would like clear guidelines for Covid mitigation in public schools. As a parent, when I approach the school district and governing boards about what they should do to prevent COVID-19 infection in their student population they tell me they are already following CDC guidelines. They are doing nothing to prevent Covid-19 infection so it must be that the CDC's policy is to do nothing to prevent infection so the state health department should step in.
Research shows that Covid-19 infection in children is not benign and that a considerable percentage of infected children go on to develop Long Covid. We don't know what will happen to these kids in say 10 years. The conservative thing to do is to prevent infection because a certain number of students will have sequelae that will impact their ability to learn and even to attend school regularly. What is AZDHS doing to prevent school-acquired Long Covid? It is illegal to mandate mask usage in school in this state. What should the school do instead to mitigate Covid-19 infection?
