YCCHS vs ADHS Positivity Rates
I am contacting ADHS because I am seeing is a significant discrepancy between the COVID-19 data reported by YCCHS versus by ADHS. Specifically, YCCHS's total positivity rate is based on all diagnostic testing whereas ADHS's total positivity rate is calculated only from the electronically-reported tests. The calculations below show that the tests not electronically reported do have a sizable impact on the positivity rate.
YCCHS Tests Reported = 44380
YCCHS Positive Tests = 2628
YCCHS’s Positivity Rate = 2628 / 44380 = 5.9%
ADHS "Tests Reported Electronically" = 37691
ADHS Positive "Tests Reported Electronically" = 1789
ADHS’s Positivity Rate = 1789 / 37691 = 4.8%
Number of Tests Not Reported (Electronically) = 44380 – 37691 = 6689
Percentage of Tests Not Reported (Electronically) = 6689 / 44380 = 15.1%
Number of Positive Tests Not Reported (Electronically) = 2628 – 1789 = 839
Percentage of Positive Tests Not Reported (Electronically) = 839 / 2628 = 31.9%
Positivity Rate of Tests Not Reported (Electronically) = 839 / 6689 = 12.5%
While I suspect ADHS believed that using the electronically reported test data would be a good and accurate representation of all data, it does not appear to be, at least not with regard to Yavapai County. As school districts are using these benchmarks to decide when to fully open schools and families are using this data to decide when they feel safe enough to send their children back to school, I feel it is extremely important to present the data as accurately as possible.I am presenting this information to you to ask, "Are my logic and calculations correct, or am I missing something?" If the information that I present is correct, then I would ask ADHS to base the weekly and cumulative positivity rates based on ALL data and not just the electronic data.
