Agencies to report mold in rental a property; landlord doesn't care
My niece just had to move out of her rental house at 1405 W. St. Clair, Tucson, AZ because the house is infested with mold and the landlord Ms. Duran refuses to take care of the problem; instead under false pretends she evicted my niece for being late in paying her rent. The doctor just confirmed that my grand-niece has 9% mold in her system, she & my niece had been living in that rental for 2 years. We tried to report this problem to the AZ Dept. of Housing & the employee that I spoke with stated that the AZ Health Dept. in Tucson takes care of investigating mold infestations in rental properties. When my niece called the AZ Health Dept. she was told that they do not enforce violations of mold infestation. My niece just moved out of the infested house on 17 Aug 2014 and yesterday, 25 Aug 2014, she went by the house to see if she had gotten any mail & noticed that the mail box had been taken out & it appeared that an other family was getting ready to move in. Now here is a new family that is possibly going to be exposed to dangerous levels of mold.
It is a crying shame that no state or local agency wants to take responsibly for enforcing the laws (ARS 33-1324) that requires landlords to maintain fit premises that affects the health & safety of the occupants. Since nobody in Tucson seems to care or knows who takes care of this type of problem, maybe you can advice me as to where I can turn to obtain assistance in resolving this dangerous situation.
We don’t have jurisdiction over this type of a situation. You can find what we do have on our website at: http://azdhs.gov/phs/oeh/children/indoorair/mold/index.php
There is an Arizona Tenants Advocates group that may be able to help you, but we can’t endorse any services. http://www.arizonatenants.com/
We hope that things work out well for your family.

To whom do we report BLACK MOLD to in a home that needs to have my father-in-law remoced out of. He owns the home, howevet there is so much black mold the house litterally needs to be tented. The roof has it as well as the walls. Who can I contact to have go oyt and inspect it and tell him it is not safe?

I've had a bathroom under sink leak since Oct 2018. They said it can't be fixed because parts are too old. Now I have black stuff dripping out of my AC vents. I have had respiratory sickness for 4 months and getting worse. No one will even come to look at it. Can I get out of my lease. I took a sample of the black stuff I'm waiting for Dr appt with Pulmonary doctor. Thanks

We have the same issues at our apartment. Woke up to 6 leaks in the ceiling. If there is no jurisdiction over mold for yourcities, then what is the use of having the health dept?
